Peter Neilson

I am a registered and accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP).

I have over 20 years of experience working in various healthcare settings including independent hospitals, clinics, and practices, within the United Kingdom and abroad.

I attended the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School, in Minnesota, before joining the Priory Healthcare Group as an addiction counsellor. During my time working with the Priory Group of independent hospitals in London, Birmingham and Southampton, I became increasingly focussed on the application of cognitive behavioural approaches to treatment, qualifying as Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with The Oxford Cognitive Therapy Centre.

In addition, over the past 11 years I have trained and specialised in the application of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), a NICE recommended treatment for the resolution of trauma, a useful compliment to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

I receive monthly supervision and have attended regular training courses to maintain my professional development including Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Schema Focussed and Compassion Focussed Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

A major focus of my work has been on helping clients relate to their difficulties in compassionate ways, as well as providing them with effective tools to work with the challenging circumstances and emotions they encounter; mainly working with the framework of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches to provide the best outcomes to clients.

I have facilitated out-patient Mood Management Groups and Trauma Treatment Programmes and therefore have good knowledge and expertise at treating mood disorders.

I offer support for a wide range of conditions, including OCD, PTSD, phobias, depression, anxiety and addiction.

I practice in Bath on a Monday, Stockbridge on a Tuesday, Salisbury on a Wednesday and Online Thursdays
