Dr. Sharon McKinnon

I have worked as an independent clinical psychologist since 2017, having previously worked within the NHS both prior to and after completing my clinical psychology doctorate at the University of Southampton in 1999. For 17 years I worked as part of an innovative multi-agency team for children with complex behavioural and mental health difficulties, specialising in children looked after and adopted. I have therefore developed extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of therapeutic parenting, attachment-based approaches and developmental trauma. I have completed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy training at Level 1 and 2 and am in the process of completing the practicum to full Accreditation. Alongside this, I have also trained to complete autism assessments, carrying out assessments with the NHS since 2011 and more recently as part of an ASD Assessment service at The Salisbury Practice. I have developed an interest in working with families of children with neurodevelopmental difficulties, but I also offer therapeutic work to children and young people experiencing emotional difficulties.

I am a qualified yoga teacher and, if appropriate, can also bring aspects of breathwork, posture/movement and mindfulness into therapeutic work to support emotional wellbeing.
